ANCIENT GREECE from THE BRITISH MUSEUM
Knowledge Cards
This set of Knowledge Cards draws on vast resources of The British Museum presenting an illuminating glimpse into the cradle of Western Civilization. Each of 48 cards features a color photograph of an antiquity -- sculpture, pottery vessel, architectural fragment, or other Greek artifact that relates to a particular topic addressed in a concise essay on back of the card. Text and images on these Knowledge Cards introduce you to important personages (both real-life and mythical), historical periods, aspects of daily and ceremonial life, neighboring peoples, and masterpieces of classical Greek culture.
Ancient Greece, comprised of several city-states and colonies united by a common language and culture, held considerable power even before Alexander the Great conquered most of the known world. From the Greeks we have inherited many of our ideas about art, architecture, literature, government, and law ... not to mention the Olympic Games!
